Biofuel_App1Biogas Analyzer Based on the Agilent 990 Micro GC
This application note presents a method for biogas analysis using two versions of the Agilent 990 Micro GC biogas analyzer. The 990 Micro GC biogas analyzer is intended for pure biogas analysis. The 990 Micro GC biogas analyzer extended is suitable for the analysis of biogas samples mixed with other hydrocarbon streams.

Biofuel_App2Analysis of Trace Carbon Dioxide and Permanent Gas Impurities in Fuel Cell Hydrogen and High-Purity Hydrogen by GC
This application note demonstrates how the Agilent 8890 GC fitted with a pulsed discharge helium ionization detector (PDHID) was used to detect ppb to low-ppm concentration carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, methane, argon, oxygen, nitrogen, and other impurities in high-purity hydrogen.

Biofuel_App3Hydrogen Impurity Analysis Using the Agilent 990 Micro GC
There are various methods to produce H2 such as electrolysis of water, coal gasification, natural gas steam reforming, etc. The different methods of H2
production may introduce impurities into the H2 product. When H2 is used in a fuel cell, those impurities may damage the cell. This application brief demonstrates the applicability of the 990 Micro GC for a fast analysis of impurities in hydrogen.

Biofuel_App4The Analysis of Swelling Gas in Lithium-Ion Batteries with an Agilent 990 Micro GC
This application note describes the analysis of lithium-ion-battery swelling gas using an Agilent 990 Micro GC. Three channels were recommended for permanent gas and hydrocarbons analysis in battery gassing. C6 /C6+ hydrocarbons were analysed as one combined peak on a backflush-to-detector aluminum oxide channel.

Biofuel_App5Determination of Carbonate Solvents and Additives in Lithium Battery Electrolyte Using the Agilent 5977B GC/MSD
This application note describes a method for determining carbonate solvents and additives in lithium battery electrolyte using the Agilent 5977B single quadrupole gas chromatography/mass selective detector (GC/MSD).

Biofuel_App6Automated Standard and Sample Preparation for Multiple Gas Chromatographic Analyses of Biodiesel
In this application note, an approach to automating the biodiesel standard and sample preparation prior to GC analysis is presented using the enhanced capabilities of the Agilent 7693A Automated Liquid Sampler (ALS).

Biofuel_App7EN 14105 Using a Multi-Mode Inlet and Agilent J&W Select Biodiesel for Glycerides
B100 biodiesel, a cleaner-burning alternative fuel produced from renewable resources such as plant oils, was assayed for free and total glycerol content using a cool-on-column inlet according to industry standard method DIN EN 14105:2011-07.

Biofuel_App8Determination of Methanol Content in Biodiesel Using Agilent Select Biodiesel for Methanol
The purpose of the European Standard EN-14110 is to determine the methanol content of fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) intended for use as pure biodiesel, or as a blending component for domestic heating fuels and diesel fuels. However, the method is not applicable to mixtures of FAMEs that contain other low boiling components. This application shows how by using the Agilent Select Biodiesel for Methanol column, a good separation from most of these minor components can be achieved.

Biofuel_App9Analysis of Free and Total Glycerol in B-100 Biodiesel Methyl Esters Using Agilent Select Biodiesel for Glycerides
This application note demonstrates the suitability of an on-column injector and the Agilent Select Biodiesel for Glycerides UltiMetal column for the analysis of biodiesel by gas chromatography. The column was specifically developed for high temperature methods and will not break during extreme oven conditions. It is produced with a pre-installed retention gap, which provides the performance and robustness required to run this application for an extended period of time.

Biofuel_App10Determination of Methanol Content in Biodiesel Using Agilent Select Biodiesel for Methanol with Headspace Sampling to EN-14110
This application note demonstrates how well suited the GC headspace system (Agilent GC, QUMA Headspace Sampler and Agilent Select Biodiesel for Methanol column) is for the determination of methanol content in biodiesel according to EN-14110 and how the biodiesel tested met the specifications on methanol content according to EN-14214.
